A recently discovered letter from the late Nigerian rapper, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, reveals that he had informed the Nigeria Police about threats to his life.
Dated June 27, 2023, the letter was addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos. In the letter, Mohbad detailed several allegations, including a "threat to life, malicious property damage worth five million naira, assault, harm, oppression, and behavior likely to incite a breach of peace" against individuals named as Samlarry, Elele, Obele, and others.
According to Mohbad, he was attacked during a video shoot on June 25, 2023, by a group of men who claimed to be affiliated with Oba Elegushi. He explained that despite narrowly escaping the attack on that day, he continued to receive threats on his life from these individuals.
The petition stated, "On June 25, 2023, while filming a video with another artist, Zlatan Ibile, approximately fifteen individuals, led by Samlarry Elegushi, stormed the location armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and machetes. They disrupted the video shoot, causing extensive damage to equipment valued at Five Million Naira and physically assaulted me. Although I managed to escape, I sustained injuries."
The letter further noted that the total cost incurred for the damaged equipment during the shoot was Eight Million Naira (N8,000,000), which was non-refundable.
"During the assault," the letter continued, "they asserted their affiliation with Oba Elegushi and their intent to deal with me, for reasons known only to them. To date, they persist in threatening my life if they encounter me."
Mohbad appealed to the police to protect him from the individuals mentioned and bring them to justice. The letter's emergence follows the controversial circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death, with his burial taking place in the Ikorodu area of Lagos shortly after his passing.
